Is there still a group?

I'm not sure if anyone still subscribes to this blog.  I'm back in Hilo and would love to get it started again. I've showed up to the Prince Kuhio food court a few times but it's different and smaller and I haven't seen any 2600 groups.

If anyone still reads and this and would like to start meeting again please comment.

Next Meeting: February 5, 2010!

Aloha everyone!

January's meeting was great, as usual. All of our regular members showed up, and we confused the other people in the food court with our laptops and routers all over the tables. So... a pretty normal meeting.

Here are some highlights:
  • We flashed some WRT routers with Tomato OS. This is getting to be a regular activity!
  • Also, we had a lot of discussion on international politics and interesting websites. Next time maybe we can write them down to be posted up here later.
  • I was particularly pleased with my work recovering a Cisco wireless bridge. I might write up a post about it, if I remember.
  • And we swapped hacking zines and back issues of 2600.
The next Hilo 2600 meeting will be this coming Friday, February 5. (Feel free to bring any old tech that somebody else might want.)

And hey, don't forget, the Winter issue of 2600 is out on the shelves, if you aren't a subscriber. I especially liked the article about portable wireless networks.

Next meeting: January 8, 2010

Hello hackers! Our fearless founder Sandy has moved back to the mainland, where he'll probably stay for at least a year or two. For now, I've taken over updating this blog.

First order of business for 2010: the first Friday in January is also the first day in January. And being New Years Day, the mall is probably closed.

So, at the December meeting we decided to bump this one back to the second Friday: January 8th. We don't really have a specific agenda planned out, but we'll probably be talking about shiny new tech stuff and fixing broken old stuff. If you're coming for the first time, we'll be the ones at the food court with laptops and random electronics all over the table.

In the meantime, the Winter issue might be released before this meeting (or on the same day). If you want to keep an eye on it, I recommend subscribing to the rss feed at 2600.com.

October meeting

October's meeting went well. 7 members total, up from 5 last month and the 3 the previous. Going strong.

Discussed power inverters, boot CDs, WiFi, 3rd party firmware for WiFi routers and others.
